Slash signed my guitar… is this the coolest thing ever?

I had this amazing experience nearly ten years ago. Slash was at a guitar clinic in my hometown, Nashville, and I got the chance to meet him. I’m a huge fan of both Gibson guitars and Slash, so I brought my 2015 Gibson Les Paul Standard hoping he’d sign it.

I got there early, holding my guitar like it was the most important thing in the world. When it was finally my turn to meet him, he looked at my guitar and said, “Oh wow, is that a triple AAA+ top on this thing?!” Then he signed it right across the body, adding his AFD skull. I was in shock—it all happened so fast!

I took a quick photo recently to show it off. It’s probably the best day of my life. Anyone else have stories like this?

That’s awesome. I wish my signature was half as cool as Slash’s.

He signed my arm back in 1987! He also called my brother an idiot. Just don’t take your guitar into the shower, or you might lose the signature.

He signed my… well, let’s just say it wasn’t a guitar in 1989. He also called me ‘brother’ while laughing.

@Remy
And I bet you never washed it again.

Wunter Slaush kapunshka…

Spielen in mijn shunska!

Slash is just such a nice guy. Everyone who meets him says the same thing. What a cool story!

Slash signed my Strat once, but then he broke the whammy bar and set it on fire. He might’ve had a little too much to drink that night.

That’s super cool. But if Slash came near my Les Paul with a marker, I think I’d freak out!

That’s fantastic. Congrats on the experience!

What a great story and an awesome guitar. Definitely sounds like the best day ever!

How did you make this happen? I went to a Shonen Knife concert recently, and I thought it’d be weird to show up with my guitar as just another fan.

This is amazing. But honestly, I don’t think I could let anyone, even Slash, write on a guitar that nice.

You should make sure there’s a finish over the signature to protect it! Signed guitars can be tricky. Not saying this Les Paul isn’t special, but usually, signing a guitar makes it more of a display piece than one you’d play.

Sometimes the guitar itself is worth more than the signature, and adding a signature can actually lower its value. But in this case, I think you’ve got a perfect match. If you have photos or other proof of the event, it’ll make it even more special!

@Sloan
Honestly, who cares about the value? If I had that, I’d never sell it anyway. It’s worth more to me than money.

Fair point. It’s all about what it means to you.
