No more guitar for me... what do I do now?

I lent my guitar to my brother, and he rested it against an armchair. Then he decided to sit in that chair, and the impact broke the guitar.

You might think, ‘Just glue the headstock back on.’ Well, it would have been easy, but he threw it away.

I’m 17, my brother is 14.

Save up for a new guitar. This isn’t the end of the world.

We’re both young. There’s time to figure it out.

Accidents happen, but throwing away the headstock? That’s next-level silly.

You’re handling this really well for your age. I hope he finds a way to make it up to you.

@Vega
I guess I could have taken better care of it after the break, but honestly, I don’t have the energy to stay mad.

I think he owes you his pocket money until he replaces it. Good time to learn carelessness has consequences.

That’s going to take a while for a 14-year-old in this economy.

You could take it to a luthier and turn it into a headless guitar. It might look odd, but it’d be a cool way to keep using it.

That would probably cost more than a new guitar.

@Hart
True. I’d just buy a headless bridge and try it myself, but yeah, it’s not cheap.

It’d be interesting, but I’m a broke student, so that’s not happening anytime soon.

@Voss
Understandable. Don’t throw it away, though. It’s a great guitar, and some parts still work. Maybe someday you can try fixing it yourself.

I’m not great with tools. I’ll probably just buy a replacement headstock eventually.

@Voss
You’d actually need to replace the whole neck. Is your guitar a bolt-on?

I’m not sure.

Look at the back where the neck meets the body. If you see screws, it’s a bolt-on. If not, it might be a single piece or glued in. If it’s not bolt-on, fixing it will be way harder.

Looks like it’s just one block.

That’s tough. Sorry to hear that. :frowning:

I’d have lost my mind if I were you!
