First time stacking overdrives... how's it going?

Thinking about trying gain stacking? Let me share my experience!

Sounds solid! Into a mood feels bold… how’s that working for you?

I love it first in the chain! I get my pre-dirt delays and reverbs, and it works well with the Slo Gear thing. Doing a weird pseudo-flanger before dirt reigns it in a little bit. Also, doing a micro loop into the Arpanoid never gets old for me, even though my bandmates hate it.

@Jules
That’s awesome! I’ll have to try it out!

This is a pretty board… what pedals do you like?

Thanks! :smiley:

I see a Polara, I upvote! I love that pedal… but I mostly use it for synths. How do you feel the Avalanche compares to it?

I love the Polara! I mainly use the spring reverb for traditional reverb and reverse to get a washed-out sound. Compared to the Avalanche Run’s reverb, I’d say Polara seems to be a little more focused, while Avalanche Run feels more open and slightly darker. I keep the AR’s reverb pretty low, but I like stacking it with the Polara’s Shimmer, Spring, Plate, and Reverse modes.

Ah! I just purchased the Av Run myself and debated if I should keep my Polara on the board or not. I may see how they sound together. I’ve found I like the Av Run on a subtle setting to kind of pull everything together.

@Blake
Keep it! I might switch things around on my board when I get some more cables so I can run Emperor > Polara > Avalanche Run all in stereo.

I think I may! I’m running my board into my Helix Rack’s FX loop, but I might split off my Polara and Av Run into their own loop separate from my compressor, fuzz, and overdrives (one of which is Palisades!).

So I decided to give gain stacking a try… I’ve always been content with just a single fuzz and single overdrive on the board, but I’ve been curious about gain staging for a little while now. The Plumes and Twin Twelve play nice together, with Plumes boosting the Twin Twelve because I like the sound of the blown-out speaker type vibe the Twin Twelve has. I have one more spot for a pedal; I was thinking about the PG14, but now that the Violet just released, I might have to pick up one of those.

@Jules
Those colors are… something… what made you choose them?
