Is it possible to install regular Fender SSS Strat pickups (I’m thinking of using a set of noiseless hot pickups) into a G&L guitar while still being able to utilize all the features like the PTB system and the expander switch?
I’m considering either the Skyhawk or the S500 Tribute models.

Totally possible! The PTB system in G&L guitars is passive, so it works with any passive pickup set. You should be good to go as long as the pickups are passive. The noiseless hot Fender pickups will fit and work well with that setup.
Yup, I agree. The only thing you might need to check is the wiring configuration. G&L’s wiring can be a bit different than Fender’s, especially with the expander switch. Just make sure you’re comfortable with some soldering, or have a tech do it. But yeah, definitely doable!

I’ve done something similar with my G&L Legacy and threw in Fender Custom Shop pickups. Everything still worked with the PTB system, and it sounded killer. I bet with the noiseless hot pickups, you’ll get a great mix of G&L’s tonal flexibility and Fender’s classic vibe.

I’ve got an S500 Tribute myself. The PTB system and expander are really what set it apart from a traditional Strat. Adding those Fender noiseless pickups could be awesome, especially since you’ll still have the tonal versatility from the G&L electronics. Keep us posted on how it turns out!
Just be aware that some Fender pickups have different lead wires than G&L ones, so you might have to modify the wiring a bit. It’s not a huge deal but something to keep in mind when installing. Once that’s sorted, you’ll be able to use all the features like the expander without a problem.

I’ve been thinking about doing a similar mod to my Skyhawk! Those Fender noiseless hot pickups should give you some serious bite, and with the G&L electronics, it’ll probably be a unique sound. Let us know how the install goes, I’m really curious to hear how the combo works.
