Passing my first real guitar to my son next month… feeling emotional about it

These were great guitars back in the day.

What do you mean by ‘were’? Now I need the full story!

I don’t have much to add except what I know. The only pro I’ve seen using them is Nuno Bettencourt. I don’t see Washburn electrics in stores much anymore, and when I do, they’re usually used. I know they still make guitars, but it seems like they’ve lost some recognition, so not many shops carry them.

The BT-2s were short-scale guitars meant for beginners, but they were way better than most entry-level options. They even had Grover tuners! The hardware was solid, and the stock electronics weren’t bad either. If you upgrade the electronics, you’d have an absolute beast of a guitar.

Amazing gift. I can’t wait to pass down my favorite guitar to my son when he’s ready.

Teaching him to play will be a special experience.

I gave my son one of my first electric guitars, and it led him to study music after high school. I was really proud of him for that. Sadly, he burned out and doesn’t play much anymore. I hope your son sticks with it and enjoys every moment!

The Seymour Duncan pickups are a great touch. Hope your son keeps playing!

My first bass was a Washburn. Very underrated budget instruments. Your son is going to love it!

This was my first guitar too. Still have it!

I was surprised by how comfortable the neck still feels after all these years and all the guitars I’ve owned. Feels like I got the best bang for my buck back then.

Cool first guitar. My first Washburn was a Lyon. Not the best, but it got the job done.

I wish I had a kid to pass my guitars to. Getting to that age where it might not happen, so my siblings will probably just sell them when I’m gone. That’s an awesome gift, though! Your son is going to be thrilled!

@West
You could always teach others! Instead of passing down guitars, you could pass down the skill. A friend shared his lesson notes with me years ago, and it changed my whole perspective on music. Just an idea!

@Brett
Been playing for 25 years, but I’m self-taught. I’d probably end up confusing people more than helping. Haha!

Wow, I haven’t seen one of those in years! I had a BT3 in high school. Loved that thing.

Always wanted one of those Washburns but never got around to it.

It’s got a unique shape, but you’re an awesome parent for doing this!
