I’ve been using ten to fifty-two gauge strings on my guitar, which is tuned to Eb or drop Db. The thing is, I’m not a fan of the unwound G string. Are there any string sets in this range that have a wound G?
D’Addario has sets with a wound G. I use their XL series, but I’m pretty sure they have options in other sets too.
Yeah, there are definitely some sets out there. You might also be able to find individual wound G strings if you want to mix and match.
Ever since I started using wound Gs, regular G strings just feel weird to me, like wire. I don’t use your exact range, but I’ve been loving D’Addario Jazz Lights (.12 to .52) or their Jazz Extra Lights (.10 to .49), both with wound Gs.
I’ve even tried mixing the two sets together, but it’s a hassle, so I stopped. We usually play in drop B or C# standard, and the D’Addarios handle it really well.
PRS makes some strings with a wound G, but I’m not sure if the gauge is thick enough for what you’re looking for.
Check out the D’Addario EJ21 XL Jazz Light set. It’s 12-16-24w-32-42-52. It’s not exactly .10s, but it’s probably the closest you’ll get without customizing your own set.
