Riffs in approval
When I was a kid, I was into hip hop and metal, so when Vivid came out, it blew my mind (I was still a year or two away from learning about Hendrix and Funkadelic). Living Colour quickly became a favorite band, and Vernon Reid helped me develop an interest in playing guitar.
Also: I’m really old now… sigh
@Meade
I remember Vivid when it first came out too. I borrowed a friend’s cassette and never returned it. I know, it was a dick move.
I’m a big fan. When I lived in NYC in the early 2000s, Living Colour played pretty regular shows in the city. I think I saw them about a dozen times or so, all in pretty small venues. It was great. He is a wicked player, and the rest of that band is just phenomenal.
@Ira
That’s amazing! Would love to see them in a small venue. Must have sounded incredible.
I’m a big fan.
He’s a really nice guy and down to earth. Always willing to talk to other players.
Huge VR and Living Colour fan. It felt really good to go to the newsstand back in the day and see a shredder that looked like me.
I saw Living Colour a few months ago. Vernon Reid is so incredibly talented and has a very unique musical style. I don’t think there’s anyone else quite like him.
Dude is definitely a player.
His playing on “Fight The Fight” is the coolest guitar sound. Then he crushes that big A sus2 at the end it just rings out forever.
“Mistaken Identity” forever changed my view of songwriting, soloing, and music theory. I always find it odd that I don’t sound much like him and yet count him as one of my biggest influences.

Great tune!!!
Hell yeah, takes me back to the guitar magazine days just to get a glimpse at the tabs. Anyone know what else he’s worked on?

He plays guitar on the Pharoahe Monch song, “W.A.R”, from the amazing album of the same name.
Badass guitar player
