I got my hands on an LTD, not the exact model but the closest one I could find to replicate Dan Jacobs’ guitar. Decided to paint it myself and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Anyone else done something like this?
Oops, I meant Dan Jacobs, not Adam Jacobs!

Haha, thought I was losing it. I kept staring at this thinking, ‘Wait, who’s Adam Jacobs? This guitar looks so familiar though!’
Man, I remember when those guitars came out. They’re such classics!
This looks absolutely insane. Could you walk us through how you did it?

Sure! I started with a Snow White LTD and sanded the front down. Used an automotive water-based base coat, thinned it out so it would run better. Then I grabbed a windshield dobber, soaked it, and brushed the paint on. To keep the runs consistent, I used a paint stick with some paint on the tip.
Once the red paint dried, I applied three coats of clear coat, let it dry, sanded it flat to even out the layers, and then added another layer of clear coat to finish it off.
@Kelley
Why did you sand the clear coat before adding another layer? Isn’t that a bit extra?

Not at all! The red paint was pretty thick, so sanding the clear coat made everything even. Adding another layer after that made the finish super smooth.

Oh, that actually makes sense now. I know nothing about painting but love how this turned out. Looks crazy good!
