Anyone else bend with four fingers? … Thoughts?

I’ve been using four fingers to bend strings in certain situations, but I don’t see many people doing it. Most players I see use three fingers for bends. I usually use four fingers when my pinky ends up on the note I want to bend. Since it’s already there, I don’t switch to my ring finger at the last second. So, I end up using either three or four fingers depending on which note I end on. Is this a good technique, or should I rethink it? I’ve been doing it for a while, so unlearning it might be a bit difficult.

Yep, I do that too. Seems totally fine to me!

Pinkie tends to be the weakest finger, so technically it’s correct to reinforce it. You’re doing it right. I always try to bend with at least two fingers for stability.

Use as many as you need.

Do what you need, but you might find yourself needing to mute strings with your left hand eventually. It does get easier over time… the one thing we can’t rush.

I’d recommend bending with three or four fingers, depending on the situation and the note you’re aiming for. The key is to use the strength of multiple fingers—never bend with just one if you can avoid it. This helps with control, power, and consistency, and reduces the risk of straining your hand.
